dawn watch

today like most of my other days, the grind makes me akin to a hamster. and even if taking this hamster wheel rewards you with moolahs, it can sometimes turn you to a corporate pig. and thus you somehow advance corporate machinery to perpetuate the cycle of consumerism. zero interest! no money down! buy now, pay later! objectify, quantify, b-u-y! suddenly you wear the hat of a brown capitalist (very much like our good old uncle sam). please shoot me now, cos that canon slr is sooo inviting!

this afternoon, whilst we were serving food to the pedia kids of up-pgh cancer institute, a lesson was taught to me: the smile of a child especially that of at the doorstep of death has the power to tear your soul and bring you to your knees and be thankful of even the worst situation you could ever get into.

not to mention how these kids inspire me to m-a-k-e a difference. if not in other people’s lives, but at least on my own – that i don’t just exist to tread my way. i want to know that i’m awake not because i woke-up this morning…but i’m awake because there’s something i have to do, i have a reason, and i have a purpose…

whilst i lie wide awake in the middle of the night, the rest of the world sleep gently in their solace. here i am refreshed and welcoming the dawn with a more vibrant smile for all the world to see..and feel :-)

can i leave you with this?

“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and affection of children; to learn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a little bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
