from the menara tower* to UP oblation

was all knackered after my business trip in KL. 3 meetings in a day plus site inspections and mandatory (read: as per my ceo! pfft!) cocktail nights with clients can really drain ones energy. as if these weren’t enough, my flight back to MNL was a disaster! it was a very TURBOlent experience! was preparing myself already to face death right at the MH fleet but d-oh! i was seated right next to my ceo. what a sight for your death eh? ;-) anyway, thank the heavens it wasn’t still our time :-)

but i can’t complain despite being a day shy from the sweet escape concert of GS. was able to extend my trip for a day and thus gave me just about enough time to see the city and be reminded of the super duper happy times when i was there with my alterego two years ago. our tour at the fab sepang f1 circuit and in selangor’s museum where we saw how pewters are made. and of course how can i miss bukit bintang where we had all our escapades…hookah, spa nights, bar hopping, midnight bazaars, coffee indulgence and the ultimate dinner at the menara revolving resto. plus when we sneaked out to penang and explored the place with but a map and a reliable cab driver (who in fact was just as stranger as we were of the place). and our 2 day trip in genting highlands – casino, amusement park, live shows (with vegas type production), *sigh* lack of time and traveling alone make all these impossible.

so i pampered myself instead in combing the electronic shops near bintang walk. i really wanted to buy that DSLR already, thus i hopped from one store to another to get the best deal i can have. but after 3 hours of store hopping, i realized it’s still better to buy it in hk. better price. better deal. anyway i still have a scheduled flight to hk on september. (yes hello to all my amigas there! see you all!:p) so i’d rather wait. patience is a virtue, yes? phew!

i dedicated 2 hours of my time to look for that NF/MM bag. arrrg! all big malls & hotel retail shops apparently are out of its stock. likewise in HK & Sg. pffft! it took me more than 3 months to totally convinced myself i deserve it but only to find out it’s not as easy to get as it seems.

but my last hope is in A’s hands. she’s a darling to offer buying it for me and her tita will bring it here mid september straight from nyc. sweeet!

as i mentioned it’s malaysia’s merdeka month. 50th actually! wooohoo! still very young and yet has gone a long way. it’s soo difficult for me not to compare My from our country, when we are claiming to have been freed more than a century ago. ok. don’t get me wrong i luv philippines as in! big time! (my wow philippines moments ello!) but i just think our journey to being a progressive nation is still a looong & hilly trail. we must see how malaysians value their freedom through proactively participating in their nation’s vision. until we pinoys realize how blessed we are as a nation – richness in culture, diversed ecosystem, intelligent people, long history and innate nature beauty – we can never compete with our neighbouring countries.

and yes, the apparent lack of a true leader (in every sense of the word) is a major factor, why we are what we still are right now.

i honestly think we should all take our nation building as a burden. in our own ways we can make a statement to others. hmmm. work efficiently. equip ourselves constantly. set the benchmark of our work’s quality higher always. don’t throw rubbish on streets. be patient and learn to respect queues. these are but trivial stuff, i know. but these little things count if we’d all do it. haay naku. i really am just thinking aloud here and i’d appreciate if you’d understand where the frustration lies. and i too am guilty every now and then for not doing all these. pag tinitingnan ko kase silang mga malay, kamukha natin at kakulay sila. pero nakakalungkot isipin na nararamdaman na nila ang progreso ng bayan nila, habang doon sa bansa ko, andaming mahirap at halos di makakain dalawang beses magahapon, hindi makatuntong sa eskwelahan at salat na salat sa suporta galing sa gobyerno. ang drama! pramis! pero totoo!

we still have hope. in fact, if we’d look closer we are better than other 3rd world countries. so tara na, kilos na! now na! :-)

sunday was the great UP run. waaah! i over slept and woke up at 6am (exactly the same time race started). was blaming my comfy bed and the turbulent flight back to mnl. so i don’t have anything to share how great it was running under the shade of UP campus trees. however my fellow happy feet members (anton, ben, chaia, roselle) had a blast in their run.

a picnic at la mesa eco park was scheduled after the run, so i hurried myself and finished preparing my first attempt of ensalada and the cucumber drenched in super spicy vinegar & black pepper. (guys, please say it’s ok! :p). but on my way to the park, i received a call from M, advising me to go straight to UP, as we’ll have the picnic at the UP lagoon instead.

photos here are but an attempt to share the fun we had that sunday brunch!:-) i regret it for not being able to run, but the picnic made up to whatever i missed in it! more decent photos here.

we should never give up on our country. kulang lang talaga sa disiplina at matitinong tao sa gobyerno. other than that, i think our country would thrive! way back, my parents would say that philippines was one successful republic in south east asia before. wonder what happened?

bangge, glad you made it safely back to manila. your KL pix were fab, really liked your twin tower pix!

one thing malaysia has that our government doesn’t is a clear agricultural development direction – focus on oil palm, rubber, sugarcane. you should see how they develop lands to these commodities (plant on them at government’s expense), give them out to landless malaysians by the time the commodities are productive(they slowly pay through their income from the harvest), so long as these landless ensure that they take care that the farms remain productive through it’s lifespan. the developed areas include housing, recreation areas, places of worhsip, schools, markets. no wonder malaysia is affluent.
