she’s back

after my injury, haven’t joined any races nor put on my running gear.

difficult as it was, i stopped training to rest my aching knee. i removed red meat from my diet and gave up my all-time favorite burgers, pizza & crispy pata.

i content myself reading articles, blogs and publications that discuss nothing but getting fit, runners’ programme, runners’ diet and other stuff relating to what i was deprived to do for the moment because of that nasty pain in my left knee.

but no matter how long the agony may be and the time to time crankiness attacks frequent, you know that you’d reap fruits if only you sow diligently.

so there, 3 looong months of forced leave from running was like poor-ever!!

and last sunday was like a sweet reunion. there in subic, i stood side by side with hundreds of serious runners waiting for the clock to tick 6. never mind if i don’t belong to their circle who runs for hitting their next PR or who runs to bag the elite recognition of being the fastest runner, all i know was, it was a sweet breaking of dawn to my so-called come back! yeah!

i was apprehensive for a while, but after a couple of meters, i started to take off my fear and just strode my way. i thought, if i keep on thinking about my knee, i might awaken the pain again and won’t be able to finish the race. surprisingly, it was a lot easier if you worry less.

the track though was not i expected. it would have been sweeter if we did not run on the asphalted streets of subic but on the other side where the scent of the woods and the chirping of birds accompany the fun runners like me. (later i learned that 21K & 42K runners were able to enjoy the green scenery). but as they say, you can’t have it all! :-)

ran 5K at a very slow pace. finished it i think at 46mins. hahaha! 18 mins behind my used to be average. but was i disappointed? oh no not all!!! you’d think i keep my benchmark low…but i’d say just to know my knees don’t hurt anymore and that i’m back to my running affair once again, how can i ask for more??! wootwoot!

thanks to all my h@ppyfeet family, i thank you with no end!!! i was having a nasty migraine attack the entire weekend, but they took care of me like a baby. i felt like a spoiled kid. did i say how i miss your company?? was glad to meet new faces too. at least now they are not just mere names to me. i can relate their names with their faces and their stories. i may have missed a lot of the other regulars but i must say the antics in subic are classic! out of town tayo uli! :-) cheers to you guys!

    banggi! super nice to have finally put a face to the name. :) regardless of PR and injuries it was still fun heading to subic. wish i could have joined you at the resort though, kainggit!

    marga, very true! next time you better go with us for the sidetrip. para official h@ppyfin ka na rin :-) and besides ben keeps on saying same daw tayo energy level eh! hahaha!

    well, i’m on some doctor-ordered hiatus from running also, 4-6 weeks.
