if you can see the stars and hear the crickets, you’re not in the sauna, ok?

it’s sooo hot! hovering 35-36C today. so i thought of running a bit late.

but man even at night, running around Manila was like running inside a sauna!!! it’s effin hoooot! it’s crazy! there was not a sign of blowing wind.

planned for a 60min run but was only able to do a 40. during the entire stretch, i kept on staring up to remind me i was at the park and not havin a steam bath in a sauna.

but thank God for the clear starry skies and the chirping crickets. they prompted me back to reality –  i was actually running outdoors, the great outdoors!!!

do you know that:

‘Only the male crickets chirp. A large vein running along the bottom of each wing has “teeth,” much like a comb does. The chirping sound is created by running the top of one wing along the teeth at the bottom of the other wing. As he does this, the cricket also holds the wings up and open, so that the wing membranes can act as acoustical sails. It is a popular myth that the cricket chirps by rubbing its legs together.’

crickets or kuliglig in Filipino, also use their chirping in courting? :-) nice noh?!!! :-)

it wasn’t easy to say goodbye to Manila and say hello to San Francisco when you know there’s devastation around.

but with 2 days of lending my hands and time, no matter how insignificant my help was relative to the enormous need for help, i earnestly pray Filipinos will again show its resilience and be back to action soon.

i was humbled how a lot of people find time to be out and help out in distribution of reliefs. and though one would see scarcity of supply up to some degree, i can’t help but be amazed how people from all walks of life and from all parts of the globe give graciously to all Ondoy’s victims.

in a few hours – 3 hours to be exact, i’m flying out to North America for a 60 day holiday journey.

that said, i will be celebrating my big 3-0 birthday, not with my family, not with all my friends (just with 2 or 3 friends perhaps) in a city they all say never sleeps – New York. would it really be a big day to me as i inch to officially being a lady on her 30s? hmmm…let’s see…as the journey unfolds! :-)

fancy to see John & Craig on March? :-)

was chatting randomly to my travel buddies G & S whilst i was driving to the launching of CME’s Ocean Wave Pool (deserves a separate post) on how i’d want to see again Gary V’s 25 (the repeat) if only i have extra moolah. i was raving how his anniversary concert last year (i saw the nov 14 show) was a real blast!!! Gary V is one artist i would always luv to see as he is indeed Mr. Energy! eyeluv concerts that rocks the Dome BIG time and only a concert king like him can do it non-stop for 3 hours! yessss! 3 hours!

went out with my atenean friends (the tres locas saw the 15th show which i can’t as i was heading to anawangin that weekend) , and M was surprised i can sing (to the letter) each and every song he sang that night. hahahahah! i can even name what movie it was scored. ok ok! i’m a BIG fan! i skipped rihanna’s & her beau (ex) chris concert so i can splurge on GV‘s ticket! hahaha! can you blame me for that? ;-) thus it was a bummer to bring a cam without a bat! booo! good thing N was armed with his P&S. otherwise i wont forgive myself for being a real twat and not eternalize the moment with photos. we’re too close to the stage man!!! i’d say the highlight was when Gary V sang a duet with his lovely mum! wooow! his mum is still a stunner at 60+!!! i luv also his daughter’s performance with him! he adores kiana, you’d sense it onstage! awwww!

eyelurve!

i regretted skipping his concert in HKG, and thought that’s my last chance to see him perform live. i infact surrendered that fancy already. but when G said, he is comin’ over next month…wooohooo…immediately checked online for his tickets :-)

i can hear myself humming…pls baby dont…dont fall in love with me…

26.03.09 save the date! ;-) the music genius is comin here!!! :-)

and how can i pass the chance of seeing the brit chap sing his ticket to fame fill me in? had sooo many nights of chatting with H that should Craig hold a concert somewhere here in Asia, we’d definitely cross oceans to celebrate night of gooood music! and watta bonus that he included MNL in his ’09 world tour!!! double wooohoo! H, i know you’re jealous, as you’re there in dubai. but i promise you, i will take great photos & vids of the concert! ;-)

real & virtual running buddies

been a drama queen the past days and perhaps you guys are getting upset already. but hey! my weekend MNL holiday did me well and renewed the happy spirit in me :-)

at the early break of dawn, my dad, my youngest sibling and i were already prepping for our early run.

it’s only 5am but the newly developed colinas verdes gate in bulacan, was already half-filled with cars parked notoriousl by other excited joggers!

was too excited to run again! been ages! my first 10mins was like, “wow! this is what i’m missing!”. was jogging in pace with dad, chit chatting with him, telling him how i miss home, how i miss them, thei company..and realising it..how i miss running.

few more minutes, running gets sweeter and sweeter and sweeter as the peeping sun and the morning breeze made their presence known to me.

with the rolling scape of the jogging track, it was a surprise i didn’t feel any pain on my left knee. the run was sooo smooth i hardly got tired. we finished 2 hours later without even noticing how long we’ve been jogging.

sun’s already beaming to my face and gently reminding us that time’s up, we have to head home for the sunday service.

whilst walking back to the car, dad said, “kailan uli uwi mo? pagbalik mo jogging uli tayo ng ganito.” awwww!

then i answered, “oo nga dad eh, sarap noh? ulitin natin to.”

so till my next MNL break, i shall wait :-)

seems that e-rod hear about my plea to bring back VR, and just few days ago, received an invite to revive the thrill of running with a virtual buddy.

i’ve been missing my running buddies but because of my crazy work schedule (and that being all over), a VR alone can make me run once more with a company.

This is how it works:

Runners separated by geography do a training run “together” wherever they may be in the world. We set a distance (more or less) and meet at a specific time, so 6:00 am Manila time makes it 6:00pm US East Coast a day before.

DATE: 30 July 2008, Wednesday (Manila time)
TIME: 6:00 A.M. (Manila time)
DISTANCE: 10 km/6 miles (or whatever you wish)

The following are past participants and most of them have already committed to joining us. After the training session, each participant writes a quick recap of the session so that each of us benefits from this collective effort. If you don’t have a blog, fret not, just comment on one of our blogs about your experience.

  1. E-rod – Newport Beach, USA/Freeport, Bahamas
  2. HitMe – Quezon City, Philippines
  3. Banggi – Makati, Philippines/Saigon, Viet Nam
  4. Ben – Manila to Makati, Philippines
  5. Renz – Metro Manila, Philippines
  6. Marga – Parañaque, Philippines
  7. Caloy – Davao, Philippines
  8. TRF – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  9. Gretchen – Truckee, USA
  10. Rick – San Francisco, USA
  11. Nora – Kent County, UK
  12. Steph – San Diego/New York, USA
  13. TBR – Paranaque, Philippines

So what are you waiting for? Lace up those shoes and come join us.  Comment on this post with your city/country to let us know you want in.

*If you have an injury that keeps you from running, participate by cycling, swimming, blading or anything that involves self-propelled constant motion.

* i’ll research now for a good running path here in sai gon! wooohooo!
